Menu Items don't show on Mandriva

Description

Hi Guys,

We are having some trouble with a package built in autopackage v1.2.2 on a Mandriva system. Simply put, the icons on the desktop or the start menu do not get shown, even though autopackage seems to be doing the right things to install them for a local user. The same pakage works on FC4 & 5, and Ubuntu. Is there a known issue here?

Best Regards,

Mahony

What version of Mandriva is this? I remember we had some issues with Mandriva during their transition to FreeDesktop?.org .desktop files, but I thought we had fixed all those. Do the menu items appear in lost and found?

Do the menu items appear if running as root? Also, are .package files associated with Autopackage (do they have an Autopackage icon, does clicking on them open the Autopackage launcher?) Is this KDE or Gnome?

Thanks for the report! - Taj

No Problem.

Mandriva version summarised below:

Contents of /etc/issue

Mandriva Linux release 2007.1 (Official) for i586 Kernel 2.6.17-13mdv on a Dual-processor i686 / \l

Results of uname -a

Linux localhost 2.6.17-13mdv #1 SMP Fri Mar 23 19:03:31 UTC 2007 i686 >AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ GNU/Linux

Contents of /etc/lsb-release

LSB_VERSION=lsb-3.1-ia32:lsb-3.1-noarch DISTRIB_ID=MandrivaLinux? DISTRIB_RELEASE= DISTRIB_CODENAME= DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Mandriva Linux"

Didn't find anything in /home/lost+found. The .package files are correctly associated with autopackage.

We had problems with KDE as that was the window manager installed by default. Curiously installing GNOME seems to fix the problems we were having with KDE! We did have to log out and back into KDE to get the correct icon to appear though - initially it just showed some stock icon.

On GNOME the desktop icon is fine but the menu entry is not quite right though as it appears at the top-level instead of in our own folder ie. we get Applications->OurApp? instead of Applications->OurFolder?->OurApp?. Seems to all work okay in GNOME.

Haven't tried as root yet in light of the discovery above ie. installing GNOME fixes KDE.

Could you attach an example of the .desktop file (or .package) that it failing? Thanks, - Taj

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to worksforme.

I just tried to reproduce this with Mandriva 2008, but couldn't. I tried with the Traverso package, and the menu item appeared along with the icon. Could you test again and see if you still run into the problem? If you do, please reopen this and attach .package or .desktop file for me to experiment with.

Thanks! - Taj
